I disagree. A horror movie can be a good movie, with good writing, acting, effects, and direction, but it should also be scary. That is, after all, what makes it a horror movie. Without scares, it’s just a drama and Horror Characters Friends Halloween Massacre Machine Funny Vintage T Shirt. I can agree that modern horror filmmakers focus too much on scares and not enough on telling a good story. Fans have generally lowered their standards, accepting bad writing and acting as a trope of the genre.

Horror films are made to invoke fear or shock or disgust. I googled the definition. If it does this to some people then it’s a horror film. It won’t be the same for every person. Doesn’t mean it’s not a good film.  I get scared by realistic films that I can relate to in real life and Horror Characters Friends Halloween Massacre Machine Funny Vintage T Shirt. I’m not scared by sfx monsters etc. But obviously some people are scared by sfx monsters and ghouls. Doesn’t mean I think that those films aren’t classed as horror. Everyone’s take is different.

Besides, there are only so many horror/thriller films you can watch before the feeling of “being really scared” leaves forever. I loved Shutter (2004), Hereditary, US, and It Follows but I didn’t find any of them scary. I loved them cause they would have been scary and they still had cool stories and were creepy.
