This character was a hit with the other players primarily because I played it like some kind of Don’t Worry Be Zappe Funny T Shirt wood golem version of Abathur from Starcraft 2. It was focused purely on improvement; acquisition of new magics, acquisition of new schematics for articulation of joints or wood treatment processes to increase hardness of its blade hands, acquisition of political capital with those who had the resources and connections to provide further insight into how to self-improve, etc etc etc. This is why it was a rogue, after all. Assassination-for-hire can be lucrative and connect you with all of the right people. It was entirely indifferent to the plight of every living thing except: 1) Druids, as it maintained a deep and abiding affection for the druid that it had spent its first two centuries standing guardian over, 2) other Awakened creatures/plants, as it knew the pain and confusion that comes from being Rebirthed as a sentient object even when the Father-who-hath-Wrought-You is loving and kind, and 3) domestic house-cats, because it thought tiny fuzzy unstoppable murder factories were hilarious in concept and adorable in execution.

Personal playstyle preference: Lots of cantrips, lots of rituals. When playing a spellcaster in a Don’t Worry Be Zappe Funny T Shirt with a lot of magic (like D&D) I like there to be a lot of things I can just do. No resources, just do almost without thinking about it. Cantrips cover these – and the Pact of the Tome gives me one of the best cantrip loadouts in the game making me feel more like a magician (and Celestial Pact gives me Light and Sacred Flame for free). I also like rituals thematically. And for all I praised a short spell list with simple spells earlier I have little problem with looking up spells that my character has to look up in their spellbook while casting and that take more than a minute to cast. I just utterly despise doing so in combat for a six second action that breaks everyone’s flow. So I like rituals – and the Warlock with Pact of the Tome and the Book of Ancient Secrets ritual is the best ritualist in the game, period. Also the Celestial Warlock/Pact of the Tome lets me put off Eldritch/Agonizing Blast until level 11 (or 12 in practice) – see below.

Did I take this encounter a little too far? Maybe, but they did survive, and the inclusion of a Don’t Worry Be Zappe Funny T Shirt Fey technomancer gave them a lot of intrigue to chew on afterwords. Besides that, I found the early encounters in this module were really weak and didn’t do much to bring out the party’s abilities. They’d just kind of lean on shooting stuff from cover without thinking too much about their spells, class features, or other items. This broke them out of that cycle and got me a better picture of what Starfinder characters could do when they pulled out all the stops. Last but not least, it’s always healthy to remind the players that the enemies really are trying to kill them, and they could always be walking into a trap.

Entertainment: Dickson street is great, lots of Don’t Worry Be Zappe Funny T Shirt and good food. There is the Walton Arts Center which has top notch broadway events (musicals, plays, etc). TheatreSquared is also excellent for watching plays. The AMP (Arkansas Music Pavilion) has well known bands/artists every year. There is a Botanical Gardens. Believe it or not, we still have a drive-in theatre which plays current movies and is lots of fun. There is also a retro-arcade, bowling, skating rink, Locomotion (go karts, arcade, mini-golf), Gater Golf (mini-golf), several area Golf courses that are very nice, museums, and lots more. Outdoors: We are right next to the Ozark National Forrest, Beaver Lake, the Buffalo River, White River, Mulberry River, Devil’s Den state park, the Ozark Highlands Trail (218 miles through seven counties), caving, rock climbing, hand gliding, scuba diving in Beaver lake, and countless more to do. There is an excellent paved trail system that stretches from south of Fayetteville to the Missouri border with lots of parks and side trails along the way. Everywhere you turn there is hiking, biking, canoeing, geocaching, etc. Enough to never be bored. Community: Excellent Farmer’s Market, lots of community outreach programs, excellent public schools and some great private ones also (or so I’ve heard) Events: We also have lots of events in our area: Bikes Blues & BBQ, Joe Martin Stage Race, First Thursday (every first Thursday downtown), Fayetteville Foam Fest (Local Breweries, Food Trucks, Lots of Beer), War Eagle Crafts Fair, Block Street Block Party, NWA Naturals baseball games, Tri Sport Kid’s Triathlon, Fayetteville Roots Festival, Lights of the Ozarks, Ozark Valley Triathlon, Halloween Monster Dash, Color Vibe 5K Run, Primal Challenge.
