Exactly this. When I would interview potential adopters for the ELF Santa’s Favorite Caregiver Merry Christmas Sweatshirt I volunteered at, I always took into account that some people simply don’t know about the cons to some of the decisions we ask about (ie indoor/outdoor, declawing etc.) Of course we never wanted people to have their cats outdoors or declaw them, but I always understood that some people simply hadn’t learned why these things were so harmful to the cat. If they seemed like they wanted to learn and understood and agreed to our conditions, I would continue with the possibility of adoption. But if they tried to argue with why they wanted to let them out/declaw them, I would tell the adoption coordinator that they were a no for me.

A rescue – a non-profit 501c3, including Humane Societies and ELF Santa’s Favorite Caregiver Merry Christmas Sweatshirt , and able to create their own rules and criteria for adopters, including interviews, references, and sometimes higher adoption fees. A municipal shelter – your local county or area Animal Control facility, if they conduct adoptions – are much less confining, sometimes have lower adoption fees, but as a trade-off generally have less post-adoption support. I run one of these. We absolutely allow outdoor cat adoptions, and in fact have many cats who would prefer outdoor or indoor/outdoor homes, and would be delighted to have more people come in to adopt such cats from us!
