Celebration of life. Native funerals and the I Don’t Get Paid Enough To Deal With This shirt and gatherings are like none other I’ve ever experienced. The community draws together, the funeral is a celebration of life, an expressing of mutual grief and loss, and then a coming together of friends, of family, of acquaintances, for support and solace. The traditions are strong, the ceremonies themselves, when they use traditional elements like singing, drum song, dancing, burning sage and tobacco, etc, are beautiful. They’re wrought with feeling, with history, and with a striking resonance of meaning. You can be of any faith – or none at all – and still feel the strength and energy of these times. Call it what you will, the Spirit is strong.
