Having so much on the I dont give a Slythershit Deathly Hallows shirt to be kind of helpful in that you can pull up original sources immediately. If someone argues about state’s rights you can show them the Constitution of the CSA that explicitly says that states don’t have the right to ban slavery, or if someone says it’s not about slavery, you can pull up the declarations of secessions from the various states and show that slavery is always one of the primary reasons they used to justify secession. But you can also easily surround yourself with an echo chamber of what you want to hear. As more people have access to the internet and the ability to pick and choose what they want to hear, what role do you think history teachers have in educating people about reviewing sources.

With that said, having watched American politics at a distance over the last few years, one of my chief concerns is growing polarization, particularly among the media and more verbose leaders, and the civil unrest that seems to be disturbingly commonplace. Which leads me to my question: do you feel like America is socially in a place where alternative history, like the lost cause myth, can be properly addressed?
