I grew up without Santa (Jewish) but my wife is big on Christmas. When we adopted our daughter, we did Christmas big for the Oh The Virus Outside Is Frightful But This Wine Is So Delightful And Since We’ve No Place To Go Let It Flow shirt. I didn’t like this imaginary asshole getting all the credit for the best presents that I paid for. Ever since, Santa brings one or two mediocre presents, but the really good stuff comes from mom and dad. Also, since she was 6 when she had her first Christmas, she had a lot of trouble processing what this Santa guy’s deal was, if he went all over the world, why didn’t he bring gifts to kids in orphanages in China? Also, she was not keen on the breaking and entering part of the story, same with the easter bunny and tooth fairy. For awhile, I had to have any imaginary creatures who wanted to leave her stuff text me when they were on their way and I would meet them outside to get whatever they had for her.

Our child, now (14F), loves the magic of the Oh The Virus Outside Is Frightful But This Wine Is So Delightful And Since We’ve No Place To Go Let It Flow shirt but knows that’s other homes believe in other things during this time of year – religious (we have gone over them all) or otherwise. She was also taught that we are all a “Santa” during this time of year by our actions. We are more loving, giving and caring. We get gifts for other people – not just about what we want – it’s fun to shop for others and surprise them . Make cookies and give them away to friends and family and make special gifts for people. She loves to be a Santa. Her list of toys have never been long. She can choose to put which toys(want), clothes(need), books(read). She has to go through her toys/room to clean out the old toys (donate) to make room for new stuff coming in. She helps us (Mom & Dad & Grandparents) make our list too. From tree shopping, setting it up and all of our traditions we have established since she was a little one. As for the school – she had friends that didn’t believe – but our belief isn’t just in “Santa”. So she chose to believe in the spirit of Santa/Christmas. We also have collected Santa books stories from different Countries. It’s amazing the difference in history/storytelling.
