Now the search function in your software may be smart enough to know that \013 is the same as “ff”, otherwise it could not locate the Rugby stink stank stunk 2020 Christmas shirt. But it does not know that the graphics directive between the words “kgrid” and “cutoff” is, in fact, meant to represent an underscore character. Hence, “kgrid_cutoff” is not found. Which software is smart enough to know about digraphs? Curiously, when I view this document in Google Chrome, it can find the word “cutoff”. Acrobat 8, however, cannot. When I copy-paste this word from the document into Notepad, Chrome correctly copies “cutoff”, but when I paste from Acrobat, the digraph appears as a graphic character. Later versions of Acrobat may be doing a better job. But back to the original question, no computer made mistakes here. The mistake is made by the human, who does not know that PDF is not intended as a searchable format, and while presentation software may use some smarts to match the human’s expectations as well as possible, it is not “reading” the visual content the same way our human eyes do, so it cannot be expected to interpret a random graphic directive as a letter.

Years ago, I developed a lump on my back. It started out small and Rugby stink stank stunk 2020 Christmas shirt. It got to the point where if my shirt was tight enough, you could see a little hump on my back. It turned out to be a boil/cyst. I made an appointment with a doctor, but it took a week to get an appointment. By that time, it was almost bursting. By the time I got to the doctor, pus was already oozing out. He examined me and told me that it was a sebaceous cyst which was filled with wax. He told me that it was the biggest cyst he’d ever dealt with (for some reason, this kinda made me feel a bit proud). He then proceeded to slice and squeeze. He was back there for around 30–45 minutes. At one point, he even exclaimed, it keeps coming and coming and won’t stop! He told me that it smelled really foul and at one point, he had to take a break. When he finally finished, he put a wick inside the space where the cyst was and told me to come back in a week. When I came back a week later, he removed the wick along with some more wax.
