For everyone saying the Take A Hike Day Essential shirt, it’s just not true. The original colonies were founded on religion because so many people were fleeing religious persecution in other countries but the USA was founded very specifically to be secular. A few of the founding fathers were Christians (notably Adams) but the majority of the founding fathers were theist (Washington who always pointed to “providence”), deist and atheist/agnostic (Jefferson?). They had all seen what religion did to Europe and were trying to avoid it. The Declaration of Independence specifically used secular terms regarding a higher power like “Creator” instead of a specific God “unalienable rights endowed by our Creator,” the Constitution makes no reference to any kind of God whatsoever and the and at the very top of the Bill of Rights in the 1st amendment is ”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Even the original official motto of the United States was E pluribus unum. A majority of the country may have been Christian but it was not founded as a “Christian nation” or otherwise founded on religion.
