A lot of the shows Netflix is funding these days are essentially moonshots that cost so Thicker Than A Snickers Shirt, it’s untenable to greenlight multiple seasons if the first 1-2 don’t take off. That’s not the same as a show that starts off with half a million viewers per episode and costs the same to produce as GoT S1 ($60M+). I’m not sure how much The OA cost to produce specifically, but I have to imagine it was mostly hurt by the 2.5 year hiatus in-between seasons. The rest of these shows probably just cost way too much to take a gamble on further seasons based on their previous viewership.
