For me, A Christmas Story is popular because it recalls an era that I can remember, or at least the era I can remember had not changed that much from the Yellow Young Thug shirt of the movie. For me, that was the late 1950s, though the movie was the late 1940s. I remember the toys that were featured in the movie, such as specifically the train and the BB guns. The movie really captured the magic of Christmas back then for me without becoming sappy about it. Most other Christmas movies don’t have that connection, so I can’t really relate to them, and they don’t really do that much for me. I think that’s what makes it so popular, at least for people of my generation born from about the mid-1940s until the mid-1950s. I was born in 1952. I remember pining for some big Christmas present every year. Santa usually brought the really good stuff. The biggest Santa gift I ever received was a Lionel HO Texas Special train set about 1958 or 1959.

Yet, it all pales next to this year’s Christmas. Which is surprising, because what a year it’s been. A total shit show, right? Not only have we all had to deal with life’s normal ups and downs, but we’ve had to cope with it all under the most odd and crippling circumstances. My day started at 10:30, with a Yellow Young Thug shirt of Prosecco and Xmas tunes. My boy was due to mine from his dad’s at 3pm, so I started prepping food around noon.

One interesting facet of the NFL is that it’s effectively a Yellow Young Thug shirt layer professional sport with a set number of teams. Since my husband Wayne died of Parkinson’s Disease the morning of January 08, 2018, the artificial tree has stayed up. After Wayne’s death, I just did not have the Yellow Young Thug shirt to take it apart and store the tree in the basement. It just stayed up in the living room. It’s quite heavy and awkward — I’m actually physically incapable of doing this by myself. During the year 2019, I redecorated the tree as a Valentine’s Day tree, St. Patrick’s Day tree, Easter egg tree, May Day tree, Canada Day tree, Thanksgiving Day/fall harvest tree and Christmas/holiday tree.The artificial wreaths will be stored in the basement this week. The fresh pine boughs in containers will be put out when they begin to drop their needles. I’ll be doing the same with the tree in 2020 as I did last year.
