Where is this Patricia nonsense coming from? Where I live, we call it St. Patrick’s day. And we all know that lazy people love to shorten things and make them even just slightly easier to say, so they go with Patty’s – because of Patrick and St Patrick’s day don’t get arrested St Paddys 2019 shirt. If we said St. Padcraig’s day over here then this would be justified but as it stands, it actually makes no sense for us to say Paddy’s because it isn’t a form of Patrick.

Spellings of the same sound evolve over time, as the history of any language will demonstrate. Trying to render names from one language to another increases the chance for ambiguity. I disagree completely, Walter. St. Patrick was a male and St Patrick’s day don’t get arrested St Paddys 2019 shirt…why is it ok to refer to him with a female name? Would you be comfortable being Calle a feminized version of your name? (Well, if there was a feminized version of your name.) Being pedantic has nothing to do with this. Stupidity, or lack of knowledge, perhaps. Regardless, using Patty instead of Paddy is wrong, plain and simple.
