I understand those with a I Love Being A School Bus Driver Valentines Day Buffalo T Shirt (2) background don’t want to hear this. A typical response is, “That can’t be right. I remember Gertrude Kopecknik. She graduated with a degree in world history, and now she is the president of K&P Home Products.” Well, in all probability, ol’ Gertrude graduated thirty years ago. College in America doesn’t work the way it used to. To make matters worse that degree in world history that Gertrude’s daughter will receive next week doesn’t come close to stacking up to the education Gertrude got three decades ago. Read Academically Adrift. Employers know this. Gertrude’s daughter will be lucky to get an interview—at least without her Mother’s help. Repeat after me, “OWTW” with that degree in ‘anything’ probably isn’t going to “get it done” in today’s job market.
I live two miles from a I Love Being A School Bus Driver Valentines Day Buffalo T Shirt (2) college. One of my favorite programs there leads to an Associate’s Degree certifying graduates to install and maintain robots. The maximum cost to earn this degree would be $10,000 however some of the classes are free government grants. The jobs are full time with benefits–$25/hour. There is one serious problem very little interest. The class sizes run 3-4 students. There is a mechatronics program at Gateway Community and Technical College in Northern Kentucky. The technology is incredible. The state and local industries have invested millions. They have the capacity to train 200. They graduated 27 students last spring—no interest. Local industries are not happy. Another local school, Great Oaks Community College, has dropped their plumbing certification no interest.
