When he described it, I felt I knew roughly what we were fighting so I spent my Vow of Enmity, armed with my former master’s Longsword Dawnbringer I struck for the title and held the front line. Creature goes ago, crits on me for 42 damage in one strike. I had 72 health so I was hurting pretty bad from just one crit hit. My turn comes around again, I double strike going for broke and sure enough with my Vow active it showed up. 2 rolls at advantage and both advantages turn up a Natural 20, the group went nuts! I turn and ask a question I felt I already knew the answer to. “If this a Fiend?” DM: I mean, looks like one but you cannot be 100% certain since you all failed the knowledge test. Me: I know that, but regardless if I failed or not, my Smite deals an extra 1d8 on Fiends and Undead, doesn’t require me to know it is a Fiend, just deals extra if they are.
This is really only something that a new player encounters when playing D&D with a new D&D group for the first time, so it’s not a title so much as a meme or stereotype representing a player with bad habits. Players of D&D look down on players who play Drow for a few reasons, but before I get into them, there’s probably an important facet of the D&D community that we should recognize first, that gives context to this. The community of D&D players is a somewhat bohemian, meritocracy, with some hints of elitism. It’s a community that is basically an odd nexus where socially awkward but creative people from very different disciplines of creativity come together. People who enjoy the meticulous art of assembling models and painting detailed miniatures meet illustrators and concept artists.
